Supermarkets :
All the major Supermarkets and fish buyers are aware that seals are shot by salmon farmers. They know this keeps the farmers production costs down and helps them to source and sell us cheaper salmon......
Is the destruction of Scotland's seals a price worth paying for cheap fish? Why should share holders of these multi-national companies make a profit from the destruction Scotland's native wildlife??
Recent Example :
The salmon farmers in Lochalsh claim they lost 150 fish
(no explanation how, as there were no holes or tears in the netting) this was their justification/excuse for shooting the seals that came near their fish cages in May.... are these cheap, easily replaceable fish, really worth the lifes of the seals they shot?
Okay, so the millions of pounds worth of company profits are now down by just £300, what difference does that make to a multi-national company like marine harvest, it can easily be offset against tax and the hotel and food bill alone for a Marine Harvest Director attending the AGM in Oslo this month, will be more than that....
We lost an irreplaceable percentage of our local seal population for the sake of a few farmed fish...........and shareholder profits...........
Supermarkets can stop the killing :
M & S -
Tesco -
Morrisons
COOP
Waitrose -
Somerfield-
Iceland -
Harrods -
Youngs Seafood-
Sainsburys -
Asda -
Aldi -
Budgens -
Farmfoods -
Supermarkets can stop the killing by insisting that salmon farmers supply them with fish that have been reared without the destruction of any wildlife.. Salmon farmers would be forced to put down their guns and instal effective non lethal anti-predator nets or high tensioned cages......
The buyers can stipulate anything in their contracts, forcing the
farmers to comply.
That's all it will take to stop the killing.........
Supermarket can be removed from this list if
no seals are shot in the production of the salmon they sell.
Contact the Supermarkets:
Over the winter months many animal rights and animal welfare organisation as well as a growing number of individuals have been writing to Supermarkets asking about their position with regard the killing of seals and the salmon they sell ....
The replies to date have not been too incouraging, with stores either not responding, or replying that they accept the killing of seals in order to source cheap fish........
